The Peace Pole movement started in Japan in 1955. It is estimated that there are more than 200,000 Peace Poles worldwide, in nearly every country on Earth. Peace Poles have been placed in such notable locations as the North Magnetic Pole, and the site of the Egyptian Pyramids in Giza. However, this is the first, as far as we know, in Mid Wales.

Peace Poles are now recognized as a prominent international symbol and monument to peace. Peace Poles bear the message, May Peace Prevail On Earth in many languages of the world. The message is referred to as a peace prayer.
